i just noticed the other day that when i get up to about 25mph theres a weird sorta banging noise coming from the engine.. but it only seems to happen when the engine is cold hope its nothing to worry about ;D

does it make the noise if you are standing still and revving the engine?

Is it a constant bang when its cold or now and then when you are deriving? Could be a CV joint, they make a banging noise when you are driving every now and then?

I use to have a car that pinked when you put your foot down but when the speed caught up with the revs it died down. The best thing i can describe the weird sound too is like someone throwing loads of marbles at a biscuit tin.
Potential causes are maladjusted ignition timing, too low octane fuel, and carbon deposits in the combustion chambers.
Just a guess.

could be your big ends?but then i would expect a knocking at a certain revs hot or cold... is the engine running on all four cylinders when cold ? could be as simple as a faulty spark plug not liking the cold and not firing til it has got some heat from its neighbouring cylinder bringing it to life,, or could be your cylinder heads loose, the science of the cylinder heads i arrived at by when is the engine cold the cylinders are looser as the engine warms the head bolts tighten with the heat expanding the barrels and heads thus the noise going when warm ? people tend to overtighten the heads when building engines as the torque for them is very low and they think that is not tight enough and put a bit more on for luck,,thus pulling the studs out of the casing when the engine has got hot a few times due to the overtightening.....does it start easily???

yeah starts first turn i have just had the pushrod tubes replaced though.. so maybe something is too tight or too loose?

was the noise there previous to the push rod tubes being replaced or has it appeared since having them done??

okay .. i just took it out to go to college but didnt realise it was closed :-\ .. it didnt make the noise but its being really dodgy in 2nd gear like jerking and stuff i was going about 15mph so its not as if i was going to slow for 2nd but then i after i stopped in waitrose car park and restarted it it was fine
