Just wanted to post a quick intro. I'm Claire, sadly no longer a bug owner but I've had 3 Beetles, 2 of which were feature/front cover cars in VolksWorld and also VW Motoring in the late 80s. If any of you are as ancient as me, you may remember Blat (lilac & white 67 resto cal) and Blattoo (pastel turquoise & white 62 resto cal). If I ever work out which cardboard box in the garage they are in, I'll scan the articles and post them. The reason I've joined up is that I pass a couple of lowered bugs and a ratty (sorry!) splitty in Glasgow Street on a regular basis. I've had assorted classic cars over the years and have been toying with the idea of getting a Ford Pop/Anglia/Prefect 100e, but every time I pass those bugs, a little voice says "Beetle" to me. So, I guess I'm here to find out what I can get for my money (it MUST be pre '67), how the scene has changed in the 15 or so years I've been VW-less, and what you do in this area, cos' I've only been here 2 and a bit years. I'm sure things have changed a fair bit, I went to the very first Bug Jam!

hellooooooooo miss blattooooooooooo. welcome to the forum. im sure there's a few of the guys in the club would remember your old bugs. some of the guys have been into the scene since day one and are still going. lil 100e's are cool. ive got a mates barn find to polish up soon. shame i could've got you a great pop last year, it only went for a couple of grand as well. pinto engine, capri running gear, candy flip paint. ive got a few mates with classics, that are not vw's. one guy has got a mental old split screen morris minor for sale. its full pro-street though. V8 engine, tubbed rear etc etc £9000 ono or part ex he he but beetles are cool too. very cool my advise is to go through the for sale adds on various forums etc and check out the classifides in the magazines, to see what sort of prices are going around. i also went to the first few bugjams but have only got into the scene properlly in 2006. this years bugjam, is only a few weeks away (23rd_25th july) if you got the time, try pop over to check the for sale paddock. thats where i purchased my 1970 bug in 2006. it saled through the first few MOT's with no problems and only needed a small bit of welding and a balljoint for the next but im going to have to sort the heater channels this winter but apart from them its fine. it cost me £2400. it had a new front clip and both inner wings, adjustable beam, porsche wheels and leather seats, disk brakes front and rear, 1641cc motor with small delorto 32 carbs. everthing else was stock and in good condition. £4000 would get a very nice example, £6000 would get you a beauty anyways what ever you finally go for, please feel free to pop up to one of our meets and have a chat. its a vw club but theres plenty of us, into other mark classics aswell.

Thank you for the welcome Mr AFWO, I saw your bug at the NSRA thingie at Billing the other day. Amazing paintwork, who did it? I recognise the yellow one in your pics, takes me back a bit. I feel a scan-fest coming on, I have so many pics from the late 80s/early 90s that will take some of you back and maybe inspire a few others. Where should I post them when I get around to it? Do you have a pics section? I really miss that 'being approached by random strangers who want to talk cars' thing! I've had a Vauhall Victor/Humber Hawk/Ford Consul Capri/Ford Corsair and a Triuph Herald as well as the VeeDubs, I'm bored with driving a car that blends into the scenery. I'll do my best to get to the pub meet, I didn't realise you met there. The only car gathering I've stumbled across was a predominantly American lot at Sixfields. I need to get back into the whole car thing but it's hard in a new area to know where to start, particularly when I don't drive anything interesting (Alfa 156 Sportwagon at the moment). And I may well drag myself to BugJam if you promise not to laugh at the Alfa....

i know what your saying about it being hard to get into a scene once youve been away for a wile. thats the whole reason, why a few of us from my work and there families, started up this club. to get like minded folk together and create an outlet for us all to enjoy our fantastic hobby much better. the club formed late 2006 and our community has grown and grown and is still always growing, with links with other clubs from around the surrounding towns and counties. i was billy no mates at vw action 2006 but at vw action 2009 there was around forty of us in our club camping spot alone, plus loads of other folks and friends we now know dotted around all over the place. im popping down to avon park this weekend on my own for a hotrod event but i can more or less guarantee that ill bump into a few peeps i know now i see youve had a herald in the past, lammy a founding SCD member has currently got one at the moment. mmm consul capri's, i love um. ive been trying to get my mate mick from our meets, to buy a pick up version. its the only one ive ever seen. its ratty but solid and was only £2000 but i think its sold now. shame because i would've loved to paint it. the paint on mine is all rattle canned. i painted some spots of orange on it, then coverd it all over with brown. then rubbed it through to look like a patinerd effect. the finish is actually satin but this year i decided to mop it all up and give it a polish. it would be cool to check out some of your old fotos. there is definitely a few of the guys on here that would also like to see them. i rekon probably the best place to post them would be in our vw/autophillia section

Is that the NSRA Nationals? B*gger I'd love to go. Went last year with the (now ex) blokey. Billing is great but seeing those cars on the strip, doing what they oughta.... I should, hopefully, be there in September but none of my local buddies share my passion. I'm staggered you did that paint job with cans It's not my bag but it's soooooo different. As is the aircon! Ford didn't make a Consul Capri pick-up but there are a few about, although I think most of them are made from Classics - once you've chopped the rear of the roof off, there is very little difference. It's the coupe vs the raked angle back window that stands them apart. Classics were easier to come by and cheaper when I got mine, so were more often used as donor cars for projects like that. Seriously hankering after a low pre-67 in a pastel shade, whitewalls and towel-rail bumpers now I need to rob a bank or mug an old lady..... Off to do some scanning (after the mugging).

Awww I remember the peachy scalloped bug AND your red bus. Can't believe they totalled that bug, it was really well known on the scene when I had Blat & Blattoo. Blattoo got scrapped, the guy we sold it to was clueless, I think it was just a bit of fun to him. I was gutted to hear of it ending up in a scrap yard in High Wycombe - it was a solid car, it deserved better I already have plans in my head for Blattrois.....

Happy days, many a great dub went to the scrapyard in those days nowadays people make more of an effort to save them. Glad to hear of plans to recreate your old bug, I've said for years the old style and pastels would come back

OMG Billabug, that takes me back I actually hated that car, the fabric was gross but then so were the fashions of the time (just found a pic of me in THE most garish shorts). I'm loving your bug, and your Herald............ drool. I wasn't expecting a convertable. I'm horribly late to bed but I've scanned 20 pics, there are about half a squillion more; it might be easier if I bring the rest down the pub. I also need to find the Volksworlds, VW Motoring and Auto Express we were in.
