headlight failure

Driving home in the dark tonight and i lost my headlights and tail lights (but not brake lights) Nick was following behind and said that the tailights flickered off then on again before cutting out completely - the headlights, sidelights and dash lights did the same.

All the other lights - indicators, hazards, brakelights, interior lights are still working fine. There was a distinct electrical burning smell when this happened so im going out on a limb here, but i think something burned out Window wipers and cigarette lighter are also working fine.

All the fuses are good - so where do i start looking for the problem?

Had someone have a look the fuel guage this weekend - think they had it out and went over each connection - could this be a route to the problem?

I don't know shit but could it be a relay burnt out

thats what we thought - speedyjim on VZi reckons it might be switch as the relay wouldnt affect the rear lights (i have to go on the advice of others as i dont know shit either lol)

All I know is, its bloody dark down the A45 near wellingborough!!!

it was rather scary wasnt it Nick haha You never realise just HOW dark it is without streetlights!

Going to have a poke around with a proper torch (not our phones lol) and ive got a new switch on order just incase

It was the fact that we were parked up with the interior light flashing and there were noises coming from the bushes. I was worried about the backdoor, and I don't mean the one on the van lol.
