Hi, I am new to this forum and am very much hoping you can help me... My 1967, 1500 bug used to keep stalling when I stopped or dropped revs. My mechanic fixed that problem by fitting a new carb, dynamo brushes and a new battery and doing some other magic stuff to her but now she has very little pull and low revs. Do you have any ideas about what the problem could be? I'll bring her along to The Queen Eleanor when she drives Thank you, Sassy

sounds to me like the carb needs setting up (adjusting) and checking to make sure engine timing is ok too.

He Beetleboy,
She is new to me and before I picked her up, themy mechanic put some dodgy fuel in her, in his car too which made his run dodgy too...she may well have been out of fuel before then though...do you have some ideas as to the problem?
It's very frustrating as I just want to drive her!
Thank you

Hi Noisy,
Thank you for your reply...I'm presuming that Ian has checked the carb's set up but I may well be wrong so I'll ask him...
I definately think timing has something to do with it as now she is misfiring...he spent all day on her yesterday and she's still no better.
I also don't know enough myself but I will learn!
I'kll keep you posted as to her health on here and hopefully you'll see her soon :-)
Here's to the last of the weekend,
Sass x

hi , im no mechanic but used this site to help fix my car today. www.vw-resource.com/mihov_index.htmli was struggling to get into gear but now after browsing and searching these pages, things are shifting much better. here is information i found on the site, that may be of some help to you. hope you get things sorted soon. Engine stalls Idle speed incorrect. Fuel filter clogged and/or water and impurities in the fuel system. Distributor components damp or damaged. Faulty or incorrectly gapped spark plugs. Faulty spark plug wires. Vacuum leak in intake manifold or vacuum hoses. Valve clearances incorrectly set. Defective pilot jet cutoff valve. Engine lacks power Incorrect ignition timing. Excessive play in distributor shaft. Worn rotor, distributor cap, points or wires. Faulty or incorrectly gapped spark plugs. Carburetor out of adjustment or excessively worn. Faulty coil. Brakes binding. Clutch slipping. Low or uneven cylinder compression pressures. Fuel filter clogged and/or impurities in the fuel system. Exhaust system plugged. Engine backfires Ignition timing incorrect. Faulty secondary ignition system (cracked spark plug insulator, faulty plug wires, distributor cam and/or rotor). Carburetor in need of adjustment or worn excessively. Vacuum leak at intake manifold or vacuum hoses. Valve clearances incorrectly set and/or valves sticking.

thats what i was thinking andy, blocked jet fuel starvation, i had simaler to my van too, and that was a faulty needle vaulve! the one that sits on the top side of the carb lid inside! had me and my mechanic stumped for ages!!!!! only changed as a last resort, it should have been fine as it was a relatively new carb! check to make sure you have an inline filter! youll be suprised how many dubs dont! theres alot of shit at the bottom of the tanks! as you have the top of the carb off pop out the jet and blow it through, what we did with bennets bug was run a very thin wire through it! easy peasy stuff good luck

Thank you so much...
The stalling and pulling is fixed so I can bring her on Wednesday to The Quessn Eleanor :-) However she is misfiring, mainly in 3rd...but in other gears too, is it all part of the same problem or something different?
