Technically any aircooled engine built after 1968 would be fitted with hardened valve seats so they are capable of running on unleaded, my ghia is fitted with a later engine, never been re-built as far as i know and i always use unleaded.

Yeah read is 4 star. Not alot of places sell it do they?
There are additives available so you can run unleaded in older engines

thats right sam, its a small bottle with red fluid in it, its a lead replacment i thing its like half a bottle to a full tank of unleaded.
youll struggle to find four star nowadays but the odd place still does it! but i havnt seen a garage that does it for quite a few years.

as long as your not doing mega milage you "should" be ok running any aircooled on unleaded. all the engines after 68 were designed to be run on it.

The unleaded red stuff is LRP - Lead Replacement Petrol. Its hard to find nowdays so a squirt of lead substitute in the tank is your best bet.

you can run it on normal unleaded, red unleadd is being ruled out and is rare (very) to find, the high octane (super unleaded) is in a red pump at shell is that what you mean? but is not needed normal unleaded is absoultly fine post 68

If its the original engine, use unleaded (green pump) with the above additive
