my engines still cutting out but the car jerks loads and revs go all over the place before it cuts out and it wont restart for about 5 minutes. also i can still hear that weird knocking/banging noise coming from the back of the car which only makes a noise when the cars moving , there's also a hissing noise coming from the engine bay and it stinks of petrol, and that pipe that the carb sits on (whetever its called ;D ) was all iced up after i drove it but a minute or two after i turned to engine off it all defosted starting to think i bought a bag of shit ;D i forgot to mention the lack of power if that makes a difference lol ;D

you have carb ice my firend! youll need to hook up a hose to blow hot air onto the manifold that the carb sits on, i think there would be a build up or carbon in the two small pipes that are the hot spot pipes. they let warm air into the carb area preventing freezing!
i had the same on my old old beetle!
you could take the manifold off and clean it big jb though as you have to take the hole top end apart!

but i thought carb icing was only in cold weather and also it defrosted after the engine was turned off

well it happened to me on the way to the jamboury in cornwall it was hot weather then! i think if the blockage is bad enough it will happen in any weather! petrol is cold to touch anyway! wen the petrol isnt being forced through the carb it defrosts.
you can get heaters for the pipe around the manifold not sure how good they are though!
