oh rightt i thought i was getting 30 in the summer ;D changing the air filter from the oil bath to a k&n wouldnt have made a difference would it? cuz i read on the samba that they put their oil bath one back on to get more mpg but i dont understand how that would work i'll see what my average mpg is on the way to dubfreeze since i know the distance and dont have to rely on my tripmeter ;D

the short k+n stlye filters are horrid and will cuase you all sorts of probs on a daily driver. they are not tall enough and cuase problems with fuel stand of and all so as you have no warm air feed to the carb now you have removed the stock oil bath you will suffer from carb iceing. all this adds up to poor running and bad consumption as you have found out. if you really want to run the k+n style filter then make a exstension for it to hold the filter at least a extra 3" higher. this time of year you will need warm air to the carb or you will have carb iceing problems. cheers rob
