running board trim clips? How the hell!

ok so I did something real dumb... i have ordered some new running board trim in chrome. as the trims i was given for free don't fit the clips i have. I ordered some new clips too as the ones already on the running boards are looking a bit worse for wear...

Got them delivered today.... trim is the same size as the one I was given for free and the clips fit the trim but god only knows how im going to fit them to the running boards! so £30 spent and im no further forward!!! ARRRGGGGHHH!!! anyone got any idea's?
